UCSB Asbestos and Pb (Lead) Program
UCSB building stock includes buildings which contain Asbestos and Pb. Typically these materials are in buildings constructed before 1980.

The management of asbestos at UC Santa Barbara is the responsibility of the Asbestos and Pb Coordinator: Jerome Ripley (Phone 805.893.7984 – Email jerome.ripley@dcs.ucsb.edu) and the Asbestos and Pb Clerk of the Works Gene Horstin (Phone 805.893.5262 - Email gene.horstin@dcs.ucsb.edu). The UCSB Environmental Health & Safety contact regarding asbestos and Pb issues is Larry Parsons (Phone 805.893.2040 - Email larry.parsons@ehs.ucsb.edu).

The responsibilities of Asbestos and Pb Coordinator includes the identification of existing asbestos and Pb hazards, selecting the appropriate control strategy for asbestos and Pb exposure, and taking prompt corrective measures to eliminate identified asbestos and Pb hazards for staff, faculty, students, residents and visitors to UC Santa Barbara.
